San Roque (St. Rocco's) Hermitage

AN INCOMPARABLE LANDSCAPE

It is placed on the Cerro del Calvario (Calvary Hill) at the south of the town, next to the River Guadaíra. It is part of a former penitential route (Via Sacra or Via Crucis, Way of the Cross), of which still the small temples placed at the slope of the hill bear witness to.

The building has a single nave nowadays, although originally it should have had a crossing. The initial work seems to be from the 16th century, even though an almost complete reconstruction was carried out by the end of the 19th century. We highlight here the surrounding landscape of the hermitage, with the Guadaíra bank, the views of the urban core and the close Oromana pine wood.
