The celebration of the World Day of Bread fills every Saturday of October in Alcalá with activities.

Alcalá de Guadaíra has an identifying and indissoluble link with its bread and baking activity, not in vain for years the city was baptized as ‘Alcalá de los panaderos’ in honor of its baking tradition.

That is why from the Delegation of Tourism of the City of Alcalá de Guadaíra together with the Association of Bakers of Alcalá is launched one more year a program of activities on the occasion of World Day of Bread (October 16) and that will take place every Saturday in October (7, 14, 21 and 28 October) in places like La Harinera, the Algarrobo Mill, La Casa del Guarda and Oromana Park.

Workshops, dramatized visits, gymkhanas, night visits, kayak routes, bread solidarity sale, games around bread are part of this program with which a special tribute is paid to this famous product.

The delegate of Tourism of the City Council of Alcalá de Guadaíra, Christopher Rivas, has stated that “.The main objective is to continue highlighting the historical, cultural, economic and patrimonial significance of Pan de Alcalá. Our bakers have made in recent years and continue to develop an important effort to join hands and organize these activities around the World Day of Bread.“.

  • Dramatized micro-visits to the Algarrobo Mill. An old miller will tell in first person curiosities of his trade and how the Algarrobo Mill worked in the 15th century.

  • Bread micro-workshop. Bakers from Alcalá will tell in first person all the secrets involved in the elaboration of bread. In addition, he will reveal the process of bread from wheat until it reaches the table, and for this the attendees will have to get their hands in the dough.

  • Bread storytelling. Tales, stories and legends of Alcalá de los Panaderos, a journey through the wheat, the mills, the bakeries, the donkeys with their harnesses, the train, where young and old will enjoy learning about an ancient tradition.

  • Guided nocturnal visit to the mills of Alcalá. A unique opportunity to get to know the mills on the banks of the Guadaíra and to discover the secrets of the constructions.
