Festivities of the year

Alcalá Fair

During the last weekend of May and for four days, the Alcalá de Guadaíra Fair is held at the San Juan fairgrounds, in an excellent pictorial location, in front of the Oromana pine groves.

Typical are the night of the pescaíto (fried fish), the caseta (booths) contest with a prize for the best decoration and the hitching and horseback riding on Sunday morning to the Fair.

Festivity of the Virgin

On August 15, Alcalá de Guadaíra celebrates the holiday in honor of the patron virgin,
Our Lady of the Eagle.

In it takes place the procession of the image on a silver throne,
adorned with nards and jasmines,
that comes down from its sanctuary and goes through the streets of our city.

Holy Week

Alcalá boasts one of the oldest religious traditions in the province. Its Holy Week, declared

Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia, has unique values that distinguish it from the surrounding areas.

The Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth has its own Roman legion, the so-called “Jews”, who go through the city on Thursday morning waving a flag and announcing the Sentence of Christ. At dawn the Brotherhood makes its penitential station, to reach the Bridge at dawn and remember the Arrestof Christ.

The ascent to Mount Calvarywhere the meeting of the three steps, Jesus, St. John and the Virgin del Socorro, takes place, brings together every year a large number of locals and visitors.

The Brotherhood of the Holy Burial also has its own Roman cohort and has the unique allegorical paso of the Triumph of the Cross over Deaththe popular “Canina”.

The Holy Week has processions from
Palm Sunday (Brotherhoods of the Borriquita and
the Rosary),
Easter Monday (Brotherhood of the Third Word),
on Holy Tuesday (Brotherhood of Forgiveness),
on Holy Wednesday (Brotherhoods of the Captive and the Sovereign Power),
Holy Thursday (Brotherhood of the Amargura),
on Good Friday (Brotherhood of the Holy Burial)
and Holy Saturday (Brotherhood of the Divine Mercy).

All of this is accompanied by the unique sound of the “saeta alcalareña”.

Carnival

In 1984, Alcalá de Guadaíra recovers its carnival, which has become a meeting of a multitude of people from Alcalá de Guadaíra, with a great popular participation.

The date of this event is usually between January and February.

The program includes events such as the traditional
Carnival Groups Contest,
the proclamation and coronation of the Bakers Queens,
and the parade of Humor and Fantasy.

Three Kings Cavalcades

The Three Wisemen parade has a great tradition in Alcalá. More than 50 years of experience. But beyond the celebration of the 5th, the Association of Friends of the Wisemendevelops an extensive calendar of activities throughout the year and especially at Christmas.

On the 4th the royal heralds announce the arrival of the wisemen and collect the letters from the little ones.

On the morning of the 5th, the Wisemen make the traditional visits to charities and institutions. In the afternoon the ride departs with numerous floats, music bands and hundreds of children and Bedouins.

On the 6th, the neighborhood parades start. The Three Wisemen parade of Campo de las Beatas color the streets of his neighborhood with illusion during a morning tour. The Reyes Silos Association has a great tradition and performs its itinerary on the afternoon of the 6th, filling the streets of the area with candy and gifts.

May Processions

During the month of May the city is full of processions.

On the Saturday closest to the 16th, the Virgen del Dulce Nombre leaves in procession from San Sebastián. It goes in a showy golden float and with musical accompaniment.

On the 24th is the procession of María Auxiliadora Coronada, which has a great devotion in the city and that processions from the Salesian school. It is accompanied by the floats of St. John Bosco and St. Dominic the Wise. All the floats are carried by former students. The students of the school participate in the procession dressed in communion or flamenco costumes.
