The oldest news we have date back from the end of the 15th century, and correspond to the present-day preserved plan, of three naves of Late Mudejar style. Several works between the 18th and the 19th centuries are documented, related to the collapsing state of the building, due among other reasons to the Lisbon earthquake from 1755.
After 1936 coup d'état and the subsequent popular reaction, the church was set fire to, losing its roofs totally, which were restored later. Inside the church several liturgical items and interesting images are preserved.
